Albany’s $434M School Facilities Plan: Know What’s Funded and What’s Next
Albany’s $434 million school-facilities headline raises a fair question: is all that construction funded? The useful distinction is the long-term plan versus the work that has an approved budget and schedule. Measure L authorized $63.8 million in bonds in 2024; that is a different number from the broader facilities vision. Draft plans include Pre-K and TK spaces at Albany Children’s Center. For a particular campus, I’d ask three questions: Which work is funded? What timing is confirmed? How will access be managed? My construction engineering background makes me look for scope, budget and sequence. My real-estate advice is just as practical: don’t turn a school-planning headline into a guaranteed premium for your home. Condition, block, comparable sales and current buyers still matter. Save these questions for the next district update.
