The cooler mornings, the excuse to grab a seasonal latte, the kids picking out pumpkins, the changing leaves, and those weekends where you somehow end up doing three different things before dinner.
And the best part? You really don’t have to venture far to make the season memorable.
One of the things I’ve come to appreciate most about living in Elk Grove is how much is right around the corner. We’re close enough to Sacramento for a quick city day trip, close to the farms and wineries of the Delta, and just a short drive from some of Northern California’s most beautiful fall destinations.
So if you're looking for ways to make the most of fall this year, here’s my Elk Grove + Sacramento fall bucket list.
🎃 Start With Pumpkin Season
Fall isn't officially fall until you’ve picked out a pumpkin.
For a classic family outing, head to Fog Willow Farms in Wilton. It’s just a short drive from Elk Grove and offers the kind of old-fashioned farm experience that makes for a perfect fall morning—hayrides, pumpkins, farm animals and plenty of photo opportunities. Keema’s Pumpkin Farm is another local favorite for pumpkin picking, hayrides, a corn maze and plenty of activities for little ones. It’s especially convenient when you want a fall activity without turning it into an all-day road trip. (Sactown Supermom)
And then there’s the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival.
Held October 3–4, 2026 at Elk Grove Park, this is one of those events that feels quintessentially Elk Grove. There are carnival rides, crafts, food, entertainment, a pumpkin village, giant pumpkin weigh-offs and, of course, the famous Pumpkin Regatta where giant pumpkins become boats and race across the lake. Honestly, if you've never seen grown adults paddle around in giant pumpkins, this is your sign.
☕ Find Your New Fall Coffee Order
Fall is also my excuse to try every seasonal drink I can find.
Elk Grove has no shortage of locally owned coffee shops, so you don't have to drive into Sacramento every time you want a cute coffee run.
Try a seasonal drink at Tule Coffeehouse in Old Elk Grove, grab a specialty coffee and treat at Xulo Coffee Bar, or make a stop at 18 Grams Coffee & Tea for one of their Asian-inspired coffee and tea drinks.
And if you're heading into Sacramento, there are plenty of local coffee destinations worth the drive, including Temple Coffee and Camellia Coffee Roasters.
The best part? Pair your coffee run with a walk, a little shopping or brunch and you've got yourself a fall morning without much planning at all.
🍂 Go Find the Fall Leaves
You don't need to drive to Tahoe to see beautiful fall colors.
Start close to home.
Elk Grove Regional Park is an easy place to take the family for a walk, have a picnic and enjoy the changing season. The park sits right in the heart of one of Elk Grove's most recognizable community spaces, and it becomes especially pretty when the leaves start turning.
Land Park in Sacramento is another favorite for a leisurely fall afternoon. Grab coffee, walk beneath the tree-lined streets and turn it into a slow Sunday instead of rushing from one activity to the next.
And when you're ready for a little road trip, head toward the foothills.
🍎 Take the Scenic Route to Apple Hill
One of my favorite things about living in this area is how easy it is to turn an ordinary Sunday into a little adventure.
Head up to Apple Hill in the Placerville area, take the scenic route through the foothills, stop at the orchards, grab an apple cider donut, pick up a pie and enjoy the changing colors along the way.
You don't necessarily need a detailed itinerary.
Sometimes the best fall days are the ones where you simply drive, stop when something looks good and come home with way too many apples.
🍷 Make It a Fall Date Night
Fall isn't just for the kids.
Plan a date night at one of Elk Grove's local wineries, grab dinner somewhere cozy, or head into Sacramento for a seasonal dinner and a walk afterward.
Elk Grove's wine scene is one of those things I think people sometimes forget about. We're surrounded by vineyards and tasting rooms, which means you can have a wine-country experience without committing to a full weekend in Napa.
And if you want a Sacramento night, make dinner part of the experience. Sacramento's farm-to-fork culture means seasonal ingredients are everywhere, making this one of my favorite times of year to explore local restaurants.
🎃 Don't Forget Halloween
The fall calendar doesn't stop with pumpkins.
Elk Grove has plenty of family-friendly Halloween events, including Hallo-Palooza & Trunk-or-Treat at District56 on October 30, 2026. Expect costumes, candy, games, entertainment and plenty of opportunities for the kids to burn off some of that Halloween sugar. (Explore Elk Grove)

🍁 Make a Day of It—or Don't
That's really what I love most about fall here.
You can make it a full day:
Pumpkin patch → coffee → lunch → scenic drive → winery → dinner.
Or keep it simple:
Coffee → walk through the park → home by nap time.
You can stay in Elk Grove, head into Sacramento, or drive a little farther into the foothills.
Everything feels accessible.
And as a mom, I know how valuable that is.
Sometimes you don't need a weekend getaway or a two-hour drive to create a memory. You just need a free Saturday morning, a little cooler weather and a reason to get out of the house.
🍂 FALL-ing in Love With Where You Live
After living in Elk Grove for years, one of the things I appreciate most is that there is always something new to discover.
Fall just makes it easier to notice.
The farms.The parks.The coffee shops.The wineries.The restaurants.The community events.The little weekend traditions.
They're all right here—or close enough that you can be home before bedtime.
So this fall, don't overthink it.
Grab your people, put on your favorite sweater, find a good coffee, pick a pumpkin, take the scenic route and make a day of it.
You don't have to go far to FALL in love with Elk Grove. 🍂
